Waters Bathurst track to town

By Thomas Miles

For the first time the much-loved Track to Town activation will be coming to the Bathurst 1000 as part of a Wednesday night street party, which also features the Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge.

The journey of all 26 Supercars driving from Mount Panorama to the Bathurst Courthouse is just one part of the event that will kick off celebrations of the 2024 edition of the Great Race.

In addition to seeing the race cars up close, fans can also enjoy the transporter parade and driver signing session will also take place in the same event.

Another highlight will be the annual Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge Finals, which will decide the winner of $20,000 Golden Rattle Gun.

All of this will be part of a live Fox Sports Wednesday night broadcast from 17.30 AEST, half an hour after the Street Party begins.

Supercars Head of TV Nathan Prendergast said it will be a special occasion.

“It’s fantastic that Foxtel is bringing the best of Bathurst to viewers on the eve of one of the most anticipated events in the world of motorsport,” said Nathan Prendergast, Supercars Head of TV.

“The Bathurst Street Party is going to showcase everything that makes the Bathurst 1000 special, and we’re thrilled to share that with fans both at the Mountain and across the country.”

General Manager of Bathurst Regional Council David Sherley welcomed the addition to the town’s grand annual occasion.

“The biggest week of our year has just gotten bigger,” he said.

“Our in-town parade and signing ahead of the Bathurst 1000 is always a highlight of the year, and with the added attractions of Track to Town, Pit Stop Challenge, and live TV production, the Bathurst Street Party will be the perfect way to kick off the Repco Bathurst 1000.”

Two time Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert is looking forward to the occasion.

“Bathurst is what it is because of the fans, so it’s going to be awesome to bring our Supercars to the fans and get everyone excited for the big week,” Mostert said.

“We always get a huge turnout on the Wednesday, both from Bathurst locals and fans already camped out on the Mountain, which is really cool as a driver. We really feed off of that energy, so with everything we’re adding for this year, it’s going to be an amazing way to kick things off.”

The Bathurst Street Party begins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9 on Russell Street in Bathurst CBD before the Great Race is held over the next four days.
