Randle apologies for Feeney clash

Dutton pushes randle

By Thomas Miles

A dejected, but honest Thomas Randle has apologised for spinning Broc Feeney, which led to a moment in the Triple Eight garage in Tasmania.

Randle found himself in an intense battle with both Triple Eight Camaros for second in the closing stages of Sunday’s Race 18.

The Tickford driver first went wheel to wheel with Will Brown and lost out in the final corner, which saw the #55 fall from second to fourth and behind Feeney.

In an attempt to stay near the Triple Eight rivals, Randle braked deep into the hairpin on Lap 51, but came in way too hot, locked up and speared into the rear of the #88.

The contact sent Feeney into a spin and took both cars well out of podium contention.

Randle was handed a 15s penalty for causing the incident and immediately put his hand up to apologise.

“I am just gutted with my mistake going into Turn 4 with five to go. That was all my fault,” Randle said.

“There is no one else to blame and I will be kicking myself over that one for a while.

“It is just a real shame because it was a great opportunity to capitalise and get some points.

“It doesn’t feel real that just happened.”

Post race the Tickford driver ventured over to the Triple Eight garage to apologise to Feeney, but was denied entry by Mark Dutton, who pushed Randle back and away from the garage.

“I just went to apologise for Broc but I think he was in the truck, so Dutto had some invisible line there, but Jamie was fine.” Randle recalled.

Dutton may find himself in hot water for the incident.

At Pukekohe in 2022 Erebus CEO Barry Ryan received a reprimand for shoving Mark Winterbottom after an incident with Will Brown.

The Motorsport Australia rule B6.5.1 refers to: Offences – Actual Physical Contact.

‘A person must not intentionally make physical contact, which includes any type of assault with another person, except in self-defence.’
