Goodyer gets top American drive

Goodyer

By Thomas Miles

Australian speedway superstar Jock Goodyer will be taking on America in the same car Kyle Larson won the recent Knoxville Nationals with.

Goodyer will drive the #W57 Works LTD machine that Larson steered to victory in the biggest race in the American speedway scene.

Now one of Australia’s biggest names will get his chance to shine in the all-white weapon across a bumper 16-race schedule starting Friday (AEST) to September 21.

The first is a High Limit Racing affair at Tulare Speedway on August 15 local time.

From there he will contest 10 more High Limit races before the end of the month racing against another Australian superstar James McFadden.

The High Limit series, started by Tony Stewart, is now co-owned by Larson, who is bringing a round of that series to Perth in December.

In September Goodyer will jump to the World of Outlaws and take part in six more races in that series with his final race also in Tulare on September 21.

Whilst the Launceston youngster’s Northern Australian campaign has been impacted, he cannot wait to take on the dream opportunity.

“Excited to announce I’ll be driving the WORKS LTD. 57W,” Goodyer wrote on social media.

“Can’t thank Paul the whole 57W crew enough for giving me this opportunity. First race is on the 15th at Tulare speedway.

“This does mean I will be missing Darwin this year in my T22 but I am due to be home for Toowoomba.

“Sorry to the fans that were heading to Darwin but when such a good opportunity arises I would be crazy if I didn’t take it.

“Thank you to all my sponsors and family for being so supportive on this journey. Keep an eye out for results.”

The 16 races are scattered around the western coast in California and Washington.
