Aussie Racing Cars heading for Island showdown
The Aussie Racing Cars Super Series will contest a round at Phillip Island for the first time in six years this weekend, with the title race on a knife’s edge for the penultimate round.
A 31 strong grid will head for the Island as a support act for the Australian Superbike Championship this weekend on September 7-9.
The advantage in the title race belongs to MTA NSW’s Kody Garland after taking two round wins in succession in Townsville and Tasmania.
And whilst things are tight in the top-end of the table, Garland will have a right to feel confident at the sea-side track via his TCR experience there.
Also in the title hunt is Western Sydney Motorsport’s Cody Brewczynski, who has been a consistent challenger this season, also finishing on the podium at the previous two rounds.
Riskie Racing’s Brendon Madden is also not to be discounted as he follows up his impressive rookie campaign in 2023 with a title-contending run in 2024.
Competition Coatings Victorian driver Nathan Williams was on the pace in Tasmania and will again be aiming to impress on his home circuit.
And whilst Reece Chapman may be out of the title race, he may be one to spoil the party in the Guardian Interlock Services/Motorsport 25 entry.
The battle for the Rookie Cup is well and truly alive within the Corish Motorsports sheds, but following a disappointing round in Tasmania, Mason Harvey will be eager to recapture his early season form as teammate Jordan Freestone’s challenge has risen in recent rounds.
Returning to the field this weekend for the first time since Perth is the Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises’ entry of Asher Johnston, with the team having been hard at work effecting repairs following Perth, and have completed testing locally at Malaga prior to the round.
