Anniversary Sandown 500 schedule revealed

Will Brown Jack Perkins lead 2023 Sandown 500 PN

By Thomas Miles

The 60th anniversary Sandown 500 schedule has been revealed with Touring Car Masters part of the four support categories.

The famous enduro at the iconic Melbourne circuit will be held from September 13-15 ahead of the Bathurst 1000.

The 2024 edition marks the 60th anniversary of the inaugural Sandown enduro held in 1964 where a six-hour touring car race was won by Ralph Sach and Roberto Bussinello in an Alfa Romeo TI Super.

It will also be the 50th endurance race held at the “Home of Horsepower”.

Thanks to last year’s success with Broc Feeney, Jamie Whincup tied with Allan Moffat and Craig Lowndes for the second most Sandown 500 wins with six.

For the 2024 Sandown 500, there will be five practice sessions prior to qualifying where once again the Top 10 Shootout will take centre stage on Saturday.

A morning warmup will take place before the famous 161-lap journey to Sandown 500 glory begins at 14.05 AEST.

There will be a 26-car field with the addition of the Triple Eight and Matt Chahda Motorsport wildcard Camaros.

In addition to Supercars, the Dunlop Series will return where the stars of tomorrow will go racing across a pair of 40-minute races that produced plenty of action last year.

Touring Car Masters will also make a special return to Sandown and will be a hit with three championship races, plus the Trophy Race opener.

The Porsche Carrera Cup Series produced a thrilling finish at Sandown last year and will return with three races.

Completing the support card will be the TGRA GR Cup where young stars will be hoping to make an impression with three races.
