Ingram shoots out of the gates

Ingram

By Thomas Miles

Precision National Sports Sedan Series championship leader Peter Ingram has kicked off his Des Wall Trophy campaign well by topping practice.

Ingram and his Mazda RX7 remains the class of the 21-car field by setting the practice pace at Sydney Motorsport Park with a 1:30.0104.

But he only did it just with the red Fiat 124 Coupe that would be familiar to the locals of Brad Shiels just two tenths away.

Both drivers left their fastest laps late in the 20-minute session being recorded on their penultimate laps.

The duo were in a league of their own with third place finisher Steven Lacey the best part of 2s further back.

Almost 4s off the ultimate pace were Steve Tamasi, Geoff Taunton and Ryan Humfrey where the Holden Calibra won a tight battle for fourth.

It proved to be a tough session for Joshua Pillars with only one lap possible in his Holden Monaro.

Although the gaps may be big over practice and one lap, as was evident at The Bend, the diverse field of fire-breathing cars ranging from Shiels’ 1974 Fiat 124 Coupe to Lacey’s new 2024 MARC car will tighten up when racing begins.

Practice 2 is coming up at 13.20 AEST.
