Beswick joins “Road to Indy” in Toronto

By Timothy Neal

Current national Formula Ford pointscore leader Eddie Beswick has entered the USF2000 Canadian round as part of the indyCar bill on the streets of Toronto in Canada this weekend.

The Sydney born racer, who leads both the Vic state and national Formula Ford series, has joined up with Exclusive Autosport to compete in the American series in Canada, which represents the second rung on the “Road to Indy” ladder.

“I’m super excited to make my USF2000 debut with Exclusive Autosport in Toronto,” Beswick said.

“It’s a long way from home but the team’s been super helpful and welcoming. Although I would have liked a few more dry laps during testing before the event, I’m hoping to continue the success I’ve been having back home.”

It isn’t Berwick’s first time to North America, with the youngster competing in the Formula Race Promotions program in the States last year, where he turned heads with wins in his F1600 machine at both Road America and New Jersey Motorsports Park.

This time around, Beswick will be in the #92 Corpay Cross-Border Solutions car, a Tatuus USF-22 machine with an MZR 2L powerplant with a top speed of 233.3kph, and 13” x 8″ front, and 13″ x 10″ rear wheels.

All the series in the “Road to Indy” ladder (USF Junior, USF2000, USF Pro 2000) utilise the same Tatuus chassis before they reach the final rung, the IndyNXT series, with IndyCar then being the North American pinnacle.

Beswick won’t be the only Aussie on the IndyCar feeder bill this Weekend – or on the USF200 grid for that matter – with Gold Coast’s Lochie Hughes attempting to defend his title lead in the top scholarship category, the USF Pro 2000.

Hughes is competing for a huge $681,500 USD scholarship to advance into IndyNXT, with the Aussie having almost nabbed the USF2000 title in 2023 after he won the USF4 title in 2022.

Meanwhile, Beswick will also share the track with Quinn Armstrong in the two races, who also races in the USF2000, whilst former Formula Ford competitor Xavier Kokai, who was a withdrawal in the last round, won’t be racing in Toronto either.
