Courtney drops massive career hint

Courtney

By Thomas Miles

James Courtney has revealed the 2024 Supercars season will be his penultimate as a full time driver after effectively announcing his retirement.

In an interview with 9 News about his growing interest in real estate as first revealed in Auto Action 1886, Courtney revealed he intends to retire from full-time racing at the end of the 2025 season.

That will neatly mark two decades in the category for the 2010 champion, who first appeared in Supercars in the 2005 enduros driving with Jim Richards in the #22 Holden Racing Team Commodore.

“I will finish this year and do next year and then that will be it for me full time,” Courtney said.

“I have had a hugely successful career, had a great time doing it all and want to end on my terms.”

Courtney has already been thinking deeply about his post Supercars career, stating his intention of switching from the driver’s seat to the real estate industry on the Gold Coast.

“Now I can move that passion into the real estate side of things,” he said.

“Real estate is my first real job because racing has been my whole life up until now.

“I am coming towards the end of the racing side of my life and it is a natural progression.

“I have always had a massive interest in real estate whether it is buying or selling my own houses.”

Since his debut, Courtney has raced for Stone Brothers Racing, Dick Johnson Racing, HRT/WAU, Team Sydney, Tickford and Blanchard Racing Team.

Over that time he has amassed 568 races, 15 wins, 65 podiums and 10 poles, with the highlight the 2010 crown after overcoming Jamie Whincup and Mark Winterbottom in thrilling circumstances.

Courtney will be hoping to mark the announcement with a strong result at the track he grew up at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.
