Supercars will carry on its 2025 tyre testing at this weekend’s Sydney SuperNight with an extra session on Friday night.

Ford’s Cameron Waters and Richie Stanaway, plus Chevrolet’s Brodie Kostecki and Andre Heimgartner will all cut laps on the new development tyre, which may be implemented in 2025.

The extra 30 minute tyre test has been added to the Sydney SuperNight schedule and will take place after the long 90-minute sole practice on Friday night.

Drivers and will face a tight 20-minute turnaround between sessions with practice finishing at 18.30 AEST and the test commencing at 18.50.

It will be the second time Gen3 cars have put the Dunlop development tyre under the microscope after both Nick Percat and Will Davison were part of an all day test at Queensland Raceway last month where over 1000km of running took place.

Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards said it will be important to test the tyre during a race weekend.

“We’re working through a test plan with Dunlop, and it’s great to get this opportunity to put some laps on the tyre in Sydney,” Edwards told Supercars.com.

“Dunlop have presented us with this development tyre for next year, and we’re keen to explore it further. Obviously, Sydney Motorsport Park is one of the tougher tracks on tyres that we go to.

“Already, we have an understanding of the ultimate lap time difference between the development tyre and the current tyres. Now, it’s about understanding how durable this tyre is.”

Edwards also stated there was method to the selection of the four drivers with both Kostecki and Waters racing NASCAR in the last 12 months and Stanaway having extensive European experience including F3, WEC and Le Mans.

“They’ve all driven different sorts of cars; particularly Brodie and Cam, they’ve had recent NASCAR tyre experience,” Edwards added.

“These drivers will be able to provide relevant tyre comparisons. Richie has got a huge amount of experience overseas with other tyres, and Andre’s highly experienced in a range of cars.”

The Friday Supercars practice goes from 17.00-18.30 AEST.
