The next step for PremiAir

By Thomas Miles

After showing best-ever pace at Darwin, PremiAir Nulon Racing has a new area of improvement as it continues its chase for a maiden Supercars podium.

Peter Xiberras’ team is on a high after James Golding took its first ever pole position at the Darwin Triple Crown.

But now the attention shifts from sprint to street racing with the Townsville 500 this weekend where teams have to strategise their way through the two 88-lap races.

Part of the strategy game will be compulsory pit stops after lap five, with each car required to take on 100L of fuel and conduct a tyre change.

PremiAir Nulon Racing has welcimed a new data engineer to its garage in Andrew Gilliam and there is one clear focus as the team chases silverware in Townsville.

“We have been pleased to welcome Andrew Gilliam to the team as data engineer, working across both cars,” said PremiAir Nulon Racing Team Manager Stephen Robertson.

“While Andrew only started with us a fortnight ago, he has jumped right in and is currently focusing on improving fuel flow for our pit stops, which will obviously be very important for us this weekend.

“As we look to see the team standing on the podium for the first time, a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes in preparation for this weekend, both around the Townsville event itself and its peculiarities, also looking at how and why we went well in Darwin, so we can replicate that moving forward and make sure we are providing both of our drivers and cars with everything required for success.”

The Townsville 500 also marks two years since Golding joined the team in 2022 as a mid-season replacement for Garry Jacobson.

Although PremiAir only has a best result of 12th at Townsville, it will be one to watch this weekend.
