Perkins salutes Janson in Super2 return

Jack Perkins

By Thomas Miles

Jack Perkins will return to Super2 at Townsville next weekend with his latest stunning tribute livery to father Larry.

Perkins will take to the streets of Townsville with a Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang sporting the colours Peter Janson and Larry Perkins raced to the podium in the 1979 Bathurst 1000.

Perkins senior and Janson started seventh, but pushed forward to be a respectable second in their #19 Holden Torana SS A9X.

They were best of the rest behind the untouchable Peter Brock and Jim Richards, who won by a record six laps in the HDT #05 Torana.

Perkins junior will be bringing back the distinctive yellow, red and blue colours of the Cadbury/Schweppes team.

It is not the first time Perkins has brought a throwback livery to Super2, having also raced with the 1982 Holden Dealer Team and 1993 Castrol Perkins colours that Larry achieved Great Race glory with.

Jack Perkins is returning to Super2 in preparation for his first endurance campaign with BRT and 19th overall, steering the #7 with the man he took his Supercars win with in 2015 James Courtney.

He has been a regular in Super2 having raced last year before stepping back before the finale.

But his last in a Ford was back in 2011 which was his most successful with two wins on his way to second in the championship behind Andrew Thomson.

Perkins staged a test at Winton on Wednesday and is pleased with how he felt behind the wheel of the Mustang.

“Very happy to be back racing next weekend in Townsville and my first time racing a Mustang!” Perkins wrote on social media.

“Huge thanks to my very loyal sponsors and supporters for making it happen!

“We teased the Peter Janson/Larry Perkins 1979 Retro earlier in the year on a  display car! Now it’s on a BRT Mustang and it looks ace!!!

“The car ran faultlessly yesterday at Winton and we were very happy with the day!

“Looking forward to Townsville next week!”
