MSR drivers boosted by testing miles
Both Matt Stone Racing (MSR) drivers Nick Percat and Cameron Hill are both believing their big miles at the Supercars tyre test could help them at Townsville.
Whilst Percat’s #10 Camaro was used for tyre testing on behalf of Supercars, Hill completed the second day of his Rookie Test allocation at Queensland Raceway.
Percat clocked up nearly 500km running the current hard, soft and super soft tyres in addition to a development tyre compound.
Having enjoyed so much seat time, the Australian Grand Prix race winner believes that will be an advantage for MSR coming into Townsville.
“We ran lots of different tyre compounds and did a lot of laps on each one,” Percat said.
“Supercars have a very good idea on what direction they want to go in; from the driver’s side it was actually just quite nice to do five race runs over the day.
“We clocked up a lot of miles — it’s probably the most I have ever done on a test day — but it’s exciting to see where we end up with it.
“It was a bit of a privilege to do the tyre testing for Supercars, but also good preparation for Townsville.”
In addition for getting more laps for Hill, MSR also took the opportunity to give new co-driver Cameron Crick a chance to drive the Gen3 Supercar.
“It was a good day,” Hill said.
“I feel like we actually found a few things that we liked which will hopefully help us when we get to Townsville.
“Always positive when you feel like you learnt something from a test day.
“It was also good to have Cricky here to get some more seat time ahead of the enduros. “Looking forward to getting up to Townsville next week and giving it our best.”
The tyre test was held eight days before the Townsville 500.
