Supercars has announced that the Townsville 500 will have its first ever Track to Town for the 15th anniversary of the July 5-7 race.
For the first time, all 24 Championship Supercars will drive through the streets of Townsville to the Jezzine Barracks, with thousands of fans expected to line the streets.
Supercars fans in Darwin gave good feedback on the Track to Town before the Indigenous themed Triple Crown event, as the V8’s revved it up to Darwin City and back.
Supercars have announced back-to-back Track to Town events after its success in Darwin
As part of the packed pre-event activities calendar for July’s Townsville 500, Supercars will drive out of the circuit and onto city streets as they make their way to the autograph session which this year will take place at Jezzine Barracks on Townsville’s famous Strand on Thursday evening.
Fans are encouraged to bring signage and dress up for the track to town, with prizes, including tickets on offer to the best dressed and best signs spotted along the route.
Drivers and their Supercars will depart the circuit at 4:45pm and drive back to the circuit at 5:45pm. Timings for the first ever Townsville Track to Town event are as follows:
o 4:45pm depart circuit
o 5:00pm arrive at Jezzine Barracks
o 5:00pm – 5:45pm free autograph session for fans
o 5:45pm depart Jezzine Barracks
o 6:00pm arrive back at the circuit
Supercars Chief Operating Officer Tim Watsford gave thanks to the QLD Government for getting behind the pre-event hype-up.
“We’re very thankful to Townsville City Council, the QLD Government and QLD Police for supporting the first ever Track to Town event in North Queensland,” Watsford said.
“The Track to Town journey is an exciting project that brings the Supercars experience right to the heart of Townsville.
“We invite fans to join us at the live site and at vantage points along the way, as Supercars take to the streets of Townsville on Thursday 4 July.”

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
The Supercars Championship has grown to become a globally recognized series, known for its competitive racing and passionate fan base. It continues to be a major part of Australia\'s motorsport culture, attracting top drivers and teams from around the world.',
