CAMERON JOINS WHITELINE RACING FOR TOURING CAR MASTERS

Camaro RS, Scott Cameron will race in Touring Car Masters for Whiteline Racing

By Bruce Williams

Sports Sedan racer Scott Cameron will join Whiteline Racing in the #85 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS for the remainder of the 2024 Touring Car Masters series.

Cameron will compete in the Touring Car Masters for the first time at the next round, which will take place at Hidden Valley Raceway, which runs alongside the Supercars at the Darwin Triple Crown event over the weekend of June 14-16.

Cameron will take control of the #85 Chevrolet Camaro RS after a few productive seasons in the Precision National Sports Sedans.

The well-known racer has been a consistent runner in the Precision National Sports Sedan Series with consistent top 10 results in his fan favourite, Chev powered VS Commodore.

However, racing in TCM behind the wheel of the #85 TCM Camaro will be an exciting and different challenge for Cameron when he arrives in Darwin, as he won’t have seen the car prior to the event.

With the Whiteline team based in Adelaide, Cameron has not yet even had a chance to sit in the car, and when he does, he will be sitting on the opposite side of the car to what he is used to.

Cameron is always up for a challenge and is very much looking forward to joining the TCM ranks, having raced against many of the fellow competitors over the years in various categories.

Scott Cameron will race in Touring Car Masters in the Whiteline Racing Camaro RS and will make his debut at the Supercars Darwin Triple Crown event.

“It’s been something that dad, the team and I have been wanting to do for some time,” he told AUTO ACTION.

“The opportunity has come about thanks to the support of my sponsors and long-time TCM supporters and Whiteline racing team owners the Bob and Sharon Middleton.

“I can’t thank Bob and Sharon Middleton enough for the opportunity, and I’m aware that the Whiteline Racing team are burning the candle both ends to have car #85 ready for next week’s Darwin event.

“I can’t wait to meet all the crew and get into the program.”

Cameron is pleased and excited that his long-time supporters have joined with him to take on the TCM category.

“The ongoing support of DFH-Duggan Family Hotels and Mark Duggan and all my sponsors has been amazing,” he said.

“All the sponsor group will transition over to car #85, including Link Property, Rotric Constructions, Shead, and along with the sponsors comes the very strong Pendle Inn Hotel V8 Supercar Club and its near 400 strong member group.

“While I love racing in sports sedans, I see this as an opportunity too good not to grab, and the TCM Cars are great crowd favourite.

“There is also added value for our sponsors as we will be racing in front of the Supercars crowd and at some of the events, we will have live TV which is fantastic.”

Cameron will compete in the Pro-Am division of Touring Car Masters and is looking forward to competing against some great names that race in the category.

“I’m excited to measure myself against the very good drivers that race in TCM in a car that I know will be competitive,” Cameron said.

It won’t be Cameron’s first visit to Darwin’s Hidden Valley circuit, Cameron raced at Hidden Valley some 10 years ago.

“I have raced at Hidden Valley a decade or so ago, but being on the opposite side of the car should be interesting!”

Cameron is 35 years old and has raced in many categories over the years.

His racing has included HQ Holdens, the Brute Utes series and NSW Sports Sedans. In recent years Cameron has competed in the Precision National Sports Sedans series as well as the Australian Production Car series.

Cameron also took up an opportunity to test with Erebus Academy Test with Image Racing.

He has also co driven at Bathurst with Craig Baird and John Bowe in the Bathurst 6 hour and HQ enduros.

Touring Car Masters boasts some of the sport’s most iconic muscle cars from the pre-1981 era.

The TCM field includes Falcon GT’s, BOSS Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros, Valiant Pacers, Holden Monaro’s through to the giant-killing Holden Torana’s and Commodores.

Touring Car Masters represents the glory days of Australian Touring Car racing and has incredibly vast appeal to a broad fan base that covers several generations of race fans and motoring enthusiasts.

Touring Car Masters joins the Supercars at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway for the Triple Crown on June 14-16.
