McLaren shows off stunning Senna Monaco livery

McLaren Senna livery

By Thomas Miles

Oscar Piastri will race a stunning Ayrton Senna tribute livery from McLaren at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.

McLaren has turned its usual papaya and black MCL38 into a Senna inspired scheme in yellow, green and blue, the same colours of the Brazilian legend’s iconic helmet.

It is rather appropriate that McLaren is making such a special tribute on the 30th anniversary of Senna’s death.

All three of the Brazilian’s world titles in 1988, 1990 and 1991 came at the Woking team, as well as  35 of his 41 Grand Prix wins.

“The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery,” McLaren CEO Zak Brown said.

“Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver.

“His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also his presence within the team, and now his legacy.

“So it’s an honour to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow and blue colours.”

The tribute has been backed by the Senna family, which has been involved throughout the 12-month long process.

“It’s an honour to recognise Ayrton through these liveries in collaboration with both McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive,” said Senna Global’s Bianca Senna.

“It’s a fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy through his iconic colours on both cars.

“McLaren meant a lot to him, and together they achieved a lot of success, much of which he is still remembered for today by so many.

“It will be special to see it race the streets of Monaco, a circuit which gave him so much joy and many triumphs.”

In addition to the F1 livery, McLaren has revealed a special one-off road car with a similar colour scheme called the Senna Sempre.
