Newey to attend Miami despite ‘imminent’ departure

By Thomas Miles

Red Bull designer Adrian Newey is expected to attend this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix despite his expected departure.

The famous engineer with 13 drivers and 12 constructors F1 championships is set to leave the team he has been with since 2006 in coming months.

However, Newey is still expected to be present at round 6 as Red Bull and Max Verstappen aim to continue their dominance at Miami this weekend.

A spokesperson for Red Bull said that “Adrian is contracted until at least the end of 2025 and we are unaware of him joining any other team.”

However, several sources from Red Bull’s technical department have privately been informed of Newey’s imminent departure.

It has been reported that Newey is yet to have face-to-face discussions with Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner, but the pair are expected to travel to Miami together.

Whilst it is certain Newey is leaving Red Bull, where he will end up is not so clear with Ferrari, Aston Marton or even a sailing yacht the favourites.

Brodie Kostecki was back for Erebus, Andre Heimgartner won for Brad Jones Racing, and Will Brown battled his teammate Broc Feeney for the other win. Anton De Pasquale also won the Jason Richards Trophy for the best performer over the two races – is Dick Johnson Racing back?
