Bathurst set to be resurfaced

Bathurst Mostert 2024

By Thomas Miles

The iconic tarmac of Mount Panorama is set to welcome a new racing surface as part of a massive $10 million upgrade.

The big dose of funding allocated in the Bathurst Regional Council’s 2024/25 draft budget.

It is highlighted by track upgrade, with all 6.213km set to be resurfaced for the first time in a decade.

In addition to the Bathurst track works, $1.7 million for Griffins Bend tyre barrier updates, $1 million for work on the Conrod Straight tunnel, $150,000 on catch fencing and $150,000 for infrastructure reserve have also been allocated.

Bathurst Regional Council Director of Corporate Services and Finances Aaron Jones told the WESTERN ADVOCATE the works are dependant on a grant application.

“The track surface is starting to crack up,” he said.

“The nature of that surface is that it is supposed to be replaced every 10 years and we are actually at that time now where the surface is due to its replacement.

“The need for the works associated with the tyre walls, it was identified at our track safety inspections that we need to start giving some attention to those tyre walls.

“Whilst we have been able to retain a track licence, we are wary as to how long that licence would be retained if we did not do anything.”

Brodie Kostecki was back for Erebus, Andre Heimgartner won for Brad Jones Racing, and Will Brown battled his teammate Broc Feeney for the other win. Anton De Pasquale also won the Jason Richards Trophy for the best performer over the two races – is Dick Johnson Racing back?
