Queensland Raceway to open 2025 Supercars season?

Queensland Raceway has emerged as a left-field option to open a potently expanded 2025 Supercars Championship Series.
Queensland Raceway could open the series, followed by the Australian Grand Prix. Taupo retains its position as the third round despite speculation in the paddock linking it to a late-season return.
Supercars is believed to want to start the season on the east coast of Australia, and without the likely emergence of any new street races, it is turning to Queensland Raceway, which hasn’t hosted a round since 2019.
Destination New South Wales would like to retain its position at the start of the calendar, but speculation surrounding a street race in the Hunter Valley has so far not amounted to a solid solution, and the proposed permanent known as Black Rock Motor Resort is not yet past planning stages, leaving NSW without a viable option given the failure of the sprint race at Bathurst to attract any crowd or interest.
With the East Coast preference and with Sydney Motorsport Park locked in for night and twilight races, a February start to the series isn’t possible there, and Sandown is locked away for the 500 in September – possibly now on an extended lifeline – leaving only Queensland Raceway and Phillip Island as options, with Queensland Raceway edging ahead.
A return to Queensland raceway has long been mooted, with more than half the teams using it as their test track and its ability to draw crowds. It hosted rounds of the Supercars Series from 1999 to 2019, and has been pushing for a return since coming under the ownership of Tony Quinn who has been upgrading facilities at the track.
With the opening three rounds likely to be Queensland Raceway, the AGP and Taupo, the series is starting to take shape, with the next rounds likely to remain Perth, Darwin and Townsville as the next rounds.
With The Bend also making a return with a third endurance race, the series could grow to at least 13 rounds.

Podcast: We’re going to Taupo… Tow Paw… Whatever. Supercars is back!

After a break that feels like months, the Supercars Championship is back and headed across the ditch to Taupo in the middle of the North Island. And yes, Brodie Kostecki will be there! As will the rain.
Somehow, the rain will also be in China for F1’s return to 中国. Philip Island was stunning on the weekend, just gone, if a little cold, but we chatted about whether Supercars should return to the land of penguins.
Plus, there’s more… all the news in the way only the Auto Action RevLimiter can deliver.
