New format for Pit Stop Challenge

Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge

By Thomas Miles

Brad Jones Racing will have to contend with a new format if it is to win a sixth straight Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge which begins this weekend.

For 2024 the finalists of the battle in the lane will be determined over six preliminary rounds starting at the upcoming Taupo Super400.

The four fastest and most consistent crews in the lane across the six rounds will chase the $20,000 Golden Rattle Gun in the finale at the Bathurst 1000.

In addition to New Zealand, the other preliminary rounds will take place at the Perth SuperSprint, Darwin Triple Crown, Townsville 500, Sydney SuperNight and Tasmania SuperSprint.

Everyone will be looking to stop Brad Jones Racing from taking out a smashing sixth straight victory having won every year since 2019.

Last year BJR not only won it, but locked out the final with both of its crews at the top of the points standings.

BJR team owner Brad Jones said his team is as hungry as ever to stay on top.

“Our guys are as ready as ever for the PIRTEK Pitstop Challenge,” he said.

“This year has an extra level of complexity added to it as most events as its going to include the fuel drop time until we get to the final.

“Being the five-times winners, it goes without saying we have a target on our backs.

“Locking out the final last year was an incredible moment and a testament to the dedication and work our crew puts in throughout the season.

“They’re a supportive group and Sam [Cosgrove, Chief Mechanic] has a great structure in place.

“It always means a lot to us as a team and me personally when we’re able to clinch the title.

“The finals are probably one of my most nervous moments in the year and I’m excited to see what we can do in 2024.”
