GT World Challenge goes carbon neutral
SRO has claimed the GT World Challenge Australia and GT4 Australia Series will be the first domestic motorsport categories to go carbon neutral.
The two Australian championships join the other SRO Motorsport Group series across the globe to contribute towards global sustainability through a number of aspects.
When the seasons begin at Phillip Island this weekend, teams will be more environmentally conscience through restriction of waste or recycling, including eliminating single use plastics.
The SRO Motorsport Group aims to be net-zero carbon by 2040, while it has planted close to 3000 trees across the world.
To help achieve this it has supported carbon compensation locations in Indonesia, the Netherlands, Brazil, the USA, India, South Africa and Cambodia, while two locations from Australia are set to be added.
Carbon calculators for both teams and fans are featured on the SRO global series website, with decarbonisation toolkits available for all competitors.
SRO Motorsport Australia CEO Ben McMellan said it is a major moment for the sport in the ongoing race against global warming.
“Making Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS and Monochrome GT4 Australia carbon neutral is a fantastic initiative,” McMellan said.
“We love our motorsport, but the health of the world is always at the forefront of our mind and SRO Motorsports Australia is proud to lead the way for all motorsport categories in this part of the world.”
The 2024 GT World Challenge and GT4 seasons begin at Phillip Island this weekend.
