“Great vibe” at Erebus

Erebus Kostecki Winton Test 2024

By Thomas Miles

There is a “great vibe” at Erebus Motorsport as Brodie Kostecki cuts his first laps of 2024 in the #1 at Winton.

The championship-winning combination of Kostecki and Erebus are back together and their first on-track appearance has taken place today at Winton Motor Raceway.

The 2023 champion was driving #1 for the first time since winning the championship in Adelaide last year.

Although there was plenty of attention on the relationship between driver and team ever since last November.

However, Erebus Motorsport CEO Barry Ryan made it clear there is a “great vibe” in the garage as the team prepares to race with the originally planned line up of Kostecki alongside Jack Le Brocq.

“It is great to be back here doing a test day before New Zealand and having Brodie in the car alongside Jack,” Ryan said.

“It is sort of back to normal because it is how we would have liked to start the year but unfortunately we couldn’t.

“It is just great to see Brodie happy and healthy and ready to go.

“It is just like how we left Adelaide at the end of last year.

“There is already a great vibe here and we all know each other really well having been together for a long time.

“No different to what we finished at the end of last year and everyone is ready to go and seeing the #1 on the car is pretty exciting.”

Kostecki also said it was a nice feeling to see the smiles on his crew again.

“It is great to see the team again and to be able to run the #1 and show the hard work they put in and to see all their smiles has been pretty cool,” Kostecki said.

“We still have a little bit of work to do and see how we go at Taupo.”

On the topic of Taupo, all eyes will be on the #1 to see how Kostecki will perform as reigning champion after two rounds away.

The driver who will raise the bat for a century of race starts in NZ is still confident he can be a contender on return.

“Anything is possible,” Kostecki said.

“So far we have had a pretty good day behind the wheel but we will just focus on ourselves like we did last year and see where we end up.

“I am pretty confident we can end up towards the front.”

Kostecki will race the #1 Camaro for the first time at the Taupo Super400 on April 19-21.
