Brodie Kostecki “excited” to be back with Erebus

By Andrew Clarke

Brodie Kostecki and Erebus Motorsport appear to have found some common ground, and the 2023 Champion will hit the track next weekend at Taupo for the first time since last season.

In a statement released by Erebus, Kostecki says he is “excited to be back behind the wheel again” and that he needed time to “prioritise my health”.

Kostecki’s return will be a real fillip for Erebus which started the season with Todd Hazelwood filling in for the first-time series champion, and rules a small line under the speculation that filled the vacuum while a resolution to the issues surrounding Kostecki and Erebus Motorsport was found.

After driving the #99 and recording a best result of sixth to sit ninth in the championship, Hazelwood will be moved back to co-driving duties for the reigning Teams’ Champions.

Kostecki will be back behind the wheel of his Erebus Camaro after missing two rounds and will ensure the #1 returns to the grid at Taupo.

‘I’m excited to be back behind the wheel again. I needed some time away to prioritise my health,” Kostecki said.

“I’m grateful for the support, privacy and time Betty, Barry, and the team have given me.”

Erebus CEO Barry Ryan said Kostecki’s return would be a boost heading into the third round of the Championship with the team currently fifth in the teams standings.

“On behalf of Betty and the team, we are pleased Brodie is ready to drive again,” Ryan said.

“Having Brodie back to work alongside Jack as he becomes more familiar with our cars will be a positive for our entire team.”

Ryan also acknowledged Hazelwood’s efforts at short notice.

“A big thanks to Todd; he performed brilliantly under considerable pressure and scrutiny, so hats off to him,” Ryan said.

“We look forward to having him at the test day this week and back in the seat for the enduros later in the year.”

Kostecki will return to the driver’s seat of the #1 Camaro at a test in Winton this week alongside Jack Le Brocq and Hazelwood.

The #1 will be back on the grid at the Taupo Super400 on April 19-21.
