Supercars recall spindles after Waters incident

Waters

By Thomas Miles

Supercars has recalled a number of front wheel spindles “as a precaution” following the Cameron Waters incident at the Bathurst 500.

Spindles were back in focus at the season opener when the front-left wheel suddenly parted company from the Tickford Mustang.

In shades of Bathurst 2005 the incident occurred on the exit of Griffins Bend, but this time thankfully no cars collected the wheel along the way as it rolled back down the wheel.

Just over a month has transpired since round 1, the Supercars Technical Department has undergone an investigation.

The findings of it have resulted in a number of front wheel spindles that have already been supplied to teams recalled.

Supercars confirmed the measure through a statement on its website.

“Following the incident at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 involving Cam Waters losing his front-left wheel in the latter stages of the race, a thorough investigation has been carried out by Supercars Technical Department,” read the Supercars statement.

“Supercars can confirm that as a precaution, a batch of front wheel spindles previously supplied to some teams, has been recalled from circulation.”

It was made just over a fortnight before a return to New Zealand at Taupo on April 19-21.
