Vale Craig Jenner

Jenner

By Thomas Miles

This week the V8 SuperUte Series has mourned the loss of former racer and one of its “biggest supporters” in Craig Jenner.

Jenner was born on 3 November 1968, and sadly passed away on 28 March 2024 after a battle with prostate cancer.

He made his series debut in 2021 and scored an impressive fifth place in the championship to get rookie of the year honours.

But by 2022 his battle with cancer started to get worse and despite this setback, he still competed in 17 races to finish 12th running the “Get Checked” livery on the side of his Mazda as a message for everyone to look out for their health.

His last race was the 2023 season opener at Wanneroo where he scored a best result of 15th across the four races.

Although Jenner was not on the grid, his name will forever be remembered in the category thanks to the special Craig Jenner Perpetual Cup, recognising the annual Rookie of the Year, which he presented last year.

Category Manager Luke Sieders paid tribute to Jenner.

“From the beginning, during the rebirth of the V8 SuperUte Series back in 2020, Craig Jenner was one of the biggest supporters of mine helping to push the category forward,” Sieders said.

“His belief, support and passion for what we all believe in at the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series is part of the reason we have made it here and so quickly as a great series.

“He will be sorely missed but never forgotten and everything we do as a category will be in honour and dedication to the commitment, belief and passion Craig showed for our category and sport.

“The Craig Jenner Rookie of the Year Trophy is truly an amazing way for us to celebrate a great man and his passion for our series and will be special to us all.”
