Feeney ‘spewing’ about late-race error

Feeney

By Thomas Miles

Broc Feeney is “spewing” after an “error” saw what would have been another Triple Eight one-two and the championship lead slip away.

After some entertaining racing with Cam Waters and Mark Winterbottom, Feeney slotted into second behind teammate and eventual race 4 winner Will Brown.

The #88 looked a safe second since taking the position on lap eight all the way until a sudden slip at the penultimate corner of the penultimate lap of the race.

As a result Feeney sacrificed second and third to Winterbottom and Matt Payne respectively.

To add insult to injury teammate and title rival Brown won the race and scored the fastest lap to overturn a two-point deficit into an 18-point lead for the #87.

After the race Feeney revealed he made a very similar error to the one Payne made at the same corner on Thursday, with the only difference the beneficiaries were not getting penalised.

“I got a good start today which I was really happy with,” he said.

“I tried to look after my tyres for a bit throughout the race but then I realised I needed to pounce on Cam, which I did but then I dropped behind Frosty (Mark Winterbottom).

“There were a few laps there where I had to use a bit more of my tyres than I would’ve liked, but then I settled in for the long run.

“I was following Will around trying to save our tyres like he was, and as it got to the end of the race, I went to go for the fastest lap but a few corners before I started my lap, my foot fell off the brake pedal and I made an error.

“I’m spewing for the team because it would have been another solid result, but you’ll take the little loss here and reset for tomorrow.”

It was a rare mistake from what has otherwise been a near-perfect 2024 so far from Feeney.

He hopes to regain some ground on Brown as the Triple Eight tussle for the championship lead continues on Saturday where two qualifying sessions and one 14-lap race are on the card.
