Racing to rev up at Redline Raceway
The prestigious Street Stocks King of the Mount event, AMCA Victorian Title and return of Wingless Sprintcars to Ballarat will ensure an action-packed evening of racing at Redline Raceway tonight.
The IPTA Fibreglass Street Stocks King of the Mount feature race will be held over a marathon 40 laps, and will be hotly contested by a high-quality field including a couple of drivers who are backing up from the Street Stocks Australian Title at Hamilton’s Western Speedway last weekend. Jayden Blomeley finished an impressive eighth outright in that event, while Jason Degoldi – a former King of the Mount winner – was also among the front-runners.
Along with Blomeley and Degoldi, other likely challengers for the crown this weekend include Mick Dann, Scott and Mark Purdie and Shaun Henry.
AMCAs are steel chassis-based cars which use a number of components from 1970s Holdens, and are powered by either Holden or Chevrolet V8 engines. The high power output means they produce exciting racing, while rewarding car control and finesse.
Like the Street Stocks, the AMCA National Title was held last weekend, with Queensland drivers locking out the podium.
Two of those Sunshine State drivers – Steve Price and Matt Hardy – are making the trip to Ballarat for this weekend’s Victorian Title and will be hard to beat, with their main local opposition likely to come from Victorians Tim Reidy (who relinquished his national title with a crash last weekend) and Dean Heseltine, along with NSW driver Tony Blanch.
The AMCA Victorian Title will be presented by True Blue Floors, a new sponsor at Redline Raceway who are also providing coffee catering for trackside spectators with their True Blue Brew setup.
The program will be completed by the Wingless Sprints, which have attracted a strong 35-car field after holding their Victorian title at Portland last weekend.
Of the drivers entered for Saturday night, the likes of Mick Rigby, Chris Ansell and Cameron O’Brien look to be the ones to watch, with these three drivers all earning direct qualification to the A-Main in Portland.
Gates at Redline Raceway open this Saturday at 2pm, with the on-track action to commence around 4pm.
