Hazelwood to race with fresh look

Hazelwood trans am 24 livery

By Thomas Miles

Todd Hazelwood will take on Trans Am in the AWC Race Tasmania with a fresh new look on his TFH Hire Racing Mustang.

With his 2024 season expected to be largely free due to losing his full-time Supercars drive, Hazelwood turned to Trans Am and made his debut at Sandown.

Although he is now driving for Erebus Motorsport on a round by round basis in Supercars, he will continue racing in Trans Am with round 2 at Symmons Plains this weekend.

He will do so with a fresh and revised livery with extra elements of yellow and red to the black base. Hazelwood will be joined by Josh Thomas in the #69 in the sister TFH Hire Racing entry.

On Sandown debut Hazelwood and the team showed flashes of speed finishing sixth in the opening race before taking an impressive third place podium in race 2.

But things then went sour in race 3 when he was caught up in the chaos at turn 4 before also going off at Dandenong Road.

Reflecting on the Sandown debut, Hazelwood said there were plenty of positives to take away from it.

“We had a lot of fun,” he told AUTO ACTION.

“It was my first weekend in Trans Am and working with the team at TFH Hire Racing which was really cool.

“We probably did not start the weekend that strong but by the end of it we were rock solid and had a lot of pace.

“It is great to do extra racing and it was always the plan to do Trans Am this year with the expectation of being a co-driver for Erebus Motorsport so it was the perfect program in addition to Supercars with no Trans Am rounds from September to October.

“I will keep going because we are hungry for success.

“We did not disgrace ourselves being our first time working with the team and they were also new to Trans Am as well.

“We are up against some experienced teams with fine pedlars so we will keep refining our game and hopefully in Tasmania we will be even better.”

Four races are on the Trans Am schedule at Symmons Plains this weekend with opening practice beginning now.
