Engines revving for Adelaide Motorsport Festival

Adelaide Motorsport Festival

By Thomas Miles

Excitement is high in the South Australian capital with the 2024 Adelaide Motorsport Festival just days away.

Famous cars and motorsport personalities from all over Australia and the world are descending on Adelaide for the big event that takes place on the famous Adelaide Street Circuit on March 16-17.

However, the festival itself fires up with the Gouger Street Party from 6pm on Friday 15 March, with all the cars on display at the free community event.

Come the weekend, attention shifts to Victoria Park where iconic cars and bikes including Bathurst 1000 winners and Formula 1 cars will be on show across 18 separate categories.

Highlights include Sauber star Valtteri Bottas driving the Brabham BT62 (Invitational) and Holden VK Commodore Group A (Heritage Touring Cars) and Kiwi F1 driver Liam Lawson driving the Ford SuperVan 4.2 (demonstration), Rodin FZED (Tipo F1) and Leyton House Porsche 962C (Invitational).

Former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner will enjoy some hot laps in a current Ford Mustang Supercar with James Courtney, while further F1 personalities include Damon Hill, who is returning to Adelaide for the first time since his win in the last Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide in 1995 and lead Sky commentator David Croft.

A total of nine original Bathurst Great Race winners will bring back a mountain of memories when they go on track together in the PremiAir Hire Bathurst winners’ category.

There is also what is claimed to be “the greatest gathering of special edition Ferraris in the southern hemisphere” at the ‘Ferrari Spettacolo’; plus so much more.

Hooray, F1 is back. Boo, Max Verstappen wins. The Bahrain Grand Prix was a little underwhelming, but at least there was racing… and scandal. There was plenty of scandel, but we don’t do that stuff apparently, so we don’t talk about Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen.
