Jones to keep racing in Carrera Cup

By Thomas Miles

Former champion and SuperCup racer Harri Jones will keep on racing in the Carrera Cup, having joined Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport for 2024.

Jones completes an all championship winning squad with 2022 title winner Jones joining Fabian Coulthard, who clinched the crown back in 2005.

They will be spearheading MPC’s charge into the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia opener at the Australian Grand Prix on March 21-24.

Jones will make a return to full time Carrera Cup racing after a busy 2023.

Boosted from clinching the title in 2022 with McElrea Racing, he went overseas to race with the famous Lechner Racing in the top level Porsche Supercup.

Overall Jones finished a solid ninth in the championship but fell just one point short of clinching the Rookie Championship to Alessandro Ghiretti.

In addition to the campaign he took two wins in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East and finished 12th in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany seasons.

To complete a busy year, he returned to Australia to compete in the final two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia with his own team Jones Motorsport.

But in 2024 he will be racing with Porsche Centre Melbourne and is looking forward to the full time return.

“I’m very excited to be back full-time in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and to be racing with PCMM,” he said.

“The team have the right attitude and all out approach towards the Championship this year and I’m sure our combined knowledge and experience will achieve great results on track.

“A year abroad racing at the pinnacle of the Porsche one-make series has surely opened my eyes to what is possible with these cars and I’m hungry to fight for another championship this year.”

Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport team principal Matt Cook believes Jones is the perfect driver to lead the team.

“We are very excited to announce Harri Jones will be joining PCMM for the 2024 Carrera Cup Championship,” he said.

“Harri’s expertise and wealth of knowledge behind the wheel speaks volumes.

“His experience driving these cars is on a global scale and I have no doubt he will be ultra-competitive from the very first race meeting at the AGP.

“Harri is the perfect example of the modern young professional driver and he will fit well into our team.”
