Matt White makes Supercars commentary comeback

For the first time in a decade, Matt White will be commentating Supercars racing by leading SEN’s radio coverage of the 2024 season.
White is one of the most familiar voices of Supercars in the modern era, having first commentated for Channel 10 at selected races in 2001, before being the full time lead caller in 2002 and 2003.
When Channel 7 took over the rights in 2007, White helmed the coverage being both the host and commentator all the way until round 3 of the 2014 season at Winton.
Although Channel 10 still used the Fox Sports commentary during the races when it returned as the free-to-air broadcaster in 2015, he was the anchor of the coverage.
After leaving Channel 10 in 2020, White moved to SEN where he has been hosting a morning show on the Sydney station.
During this time he has also called T20 World Cup, international and Big Bash cricket games, plus rugby league for SEN.
It is here where White has been drawn back to Supercars where he has called iconic moments such as Greg Murphy’s “Lap of the Gods” in 2003, Scott McLaughlin “putting one on the champ” in 2014, Whincup and Lowndes’ Bathurst hat-trick and the 2010 “they are all in the fence” decider and more.
Recently he has been calling Trans Am racing but is delighted to be back calling Supercars.
“It’s great to be back behind the microphone for our revolutionary Supercars coverage on SEN,” White said.
“This category is full of great stories and great racing. We’ll ramp it up even more.
“Fast, furious and fun – that’s our motto for the season ahead.”
For the first time SEN provided fans an alternative commentary option to familiar voices of Neil Crompton and Mark Skaife on TV on the radio, covering every Sunday of the 2023 Supercars season.
During its inaugural year Aaron Noonan was the main caller alongside James Moffat, who will remain in the special comments and expert’s role in 2024.
SEN Content Director Jeremy Markham said fans will welcome White’s return.
“We are thrilled to welcome back Matt White as the voice of SEN Supercars,” he said.
“Motorsport fans have sorely missed Matt’s voice and unmatched commentary.
“We can’t wait for him to call his first race and bring his infectious energy and passion to our coverage this weekend.
“It is also an honour to welcome back seasoned driver James Moffat to our expert SEN Supercars team.
“With two decades of experience behind the wheel, James brings a wealth of driver insights and analysis that our listeners will love.”
SEN will broadcast the Bathurst 500 this weekend which kicks off the 2024 season.

It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
