TCR World Tour scraps Aussie rounds

By Thomas Miles

The TCR World Tour will not return to Australia in 2024 after scrapping its trips to Sydney Motorsport Park and Bathurst.

After coming down under for the first time last year, a return trip was scheduled at the same NSW tracks in November to end the 2024 TCR Australia season in a big way.

However, the double header will not take place this year with the WSC cancelling those plans.

Due to the revelation the SpeedSeries calendar was impacted with two Sydney Motorsport Park rounds originally scheduled.

But now only one will take place with the TCR Australia round taking place on the earlier October 18-20 window instead of November 1-3 as previously scheduled with the World Tour.

The 2024 Bathurst International will remain on November 8-10.

Motorsport Australia has reacted to the news confirming the calendar changes.

“Motorsport Australia acknowledges the decision by WSC to cancel this year’s Australian rounds of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour events,” read a MA statement.

“These decisions have a minor impact on the Shannons SpeedSeries calendar, with ARG also advising that it will not host its promoted Sydney Motorsport Park round in 2024.

“As such, our Sydney Motorsport Park event on 18-20 October will now serve as the sole Sydney event on the Shannons SpeedSeries calendar, with a bumper list of categories to take part across the weekend, including the local TCR competitors.

“We will continue to support ARG and its plans for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International both in 2024 and in the future. We look forward to another exciting event in November.”

Held in front of poor crowds the TCR World Tour produced some entertaining racing with Will Brown, Robert Huff, Santiago Urrutia, Norbert Michelisz and Yann Ehrlacher being victorious.
