WAU reveal first 2024 Supercar

Wood 2024 livery WAU 3

By Thomas Miles

Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) has sparked the 2024 Supercars launch season into gear by unveiling Ryan Wood’s rookie colours.

Wood will make his main game debut this year in the #2 Mustang having replaced Nick Percat after an impressive maiden Super2 campaign where he won the most races and pole positions.

In addition to the new driver, there is also a fresh look for the #2 Mustang with Truck Assist coming on board as the main sponsor.

Last year the primary backer of Percat was NTI, but this has been switched to sister company Truck Assist which has previously backed Matt Stone Racing, Tickford and Tekno.

The livery itself is an evolution from WAU’s revolution at the start of the Gen3 era.

To mark its switch from Holden to Ford last year the team changed from an all black to an all white base which has been retained, but with added black and orange elements on the doors, front and rear for Truck Assist.

Wood himself is a big fan of his first ever Supercars livery.

“The Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Mustang looks awesome, the colours and livery are incredible, so I can’t wait for everyone to see it once we roll out on the track,” he said.

“I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel and let’s see what we can do.

“It’s all starting to feel real now, someone pinch me!”

The Bathurst 500 will double as Wood’s first ever Supercars start having come straight out of Super2 without any previous co-driving experience.

But it is clear the 20-year-old has pace to burn having collected seven pole positions and five wins at Wanneroo, Sandown and Bathurst on his way to third in the championship.

WAU plucked Wood out of the Porsche pyramid having finished second in the 2022 Sprint Challenge.

The faith was justified last year and WAU CEO Bruce Stewart is excited to see what the Kiwi can do in Supercars.

“We look forward to an exciting year for Ryan, he has genuine speed and we are eager for everyone to see what,” he said.

“He can bring to the category both on and off the track. I can’t wait to get the season underway and see the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing car on track for the first test day at Winton on February 7th.”
