CAMERON CLINGS ONTO S5000 POLE

By Thomas Miles

Aaron Cameron has take an important first step to the S5000 Gold Star crown by taking pole in a tight qualifying session at Adelaide.

The evolving track continued to get drier and faster throughout the session and Cameron’s 1:15.777 ultimately proved fastest.

This was just enough as Jordan Boys fell 0.037s short ahead of Blake Purdie and Ben Bargwanna who both displaced Nathan Herne, who spun twice at the final corner.

Cooper Webster was a notable absentee with his Versa Motorsport car being jammed in gear and unable to leave the garage.

The first 13 minutes was all about Cameron and Herne as they traded times at the top of the timesheets.

The lead changed hands between the pair five times until Boys joined in the fun with 7 minutes to go.

Herne was pushing hard with 4 minutes to go and locked up at turn 9 before losing it completely at the final hairpin, spinning after dipping his rear into the grass on corner exit.

Just a handful of minutes later Herne spun a second time at turn 14, but this time found the grass on entry. This relegated him to fifth.

Meanwhile Boys improved his mark to a 1:16.526 but this only stood momentarily as Cameron reclaimed the lead.

Boys had a last minute dash but fell three hundredths short of pole.

Sebastien Amadio kissed the concrete at turn 8 but survived, while Nic Carroll had a close call at turn 11 and many went surfing over the Senna Chicane kerbs.

The first S5000 race is at 14.45 AEDT.
