Know your National Sports Sedans: The Bathurst 1000 field

By Timothy Neal

The Precision National Sports Sedans are back at the Bathurst 1000 for the first time since 1992, and Mount Panorama race fans are lapping up the unique, varied, and attractive machines.

The beauty of this category for any interested race fan can be seen by walking around the paddock. It’s very hands-on in an old school way: bonnets open, tinkering, perfecting, adjusting, scrambling against the clock etc. There’s something honest about it in that regard that feels different to other national categories.

Like plenty of other series’ in the country, the series naturally took a hit during the Pandemic, but now it’s back on the big stage with plenty more to come, including another Supercars appearance at the Gold Coast 500 to finish its year.

The Precision National Sports Sedans are also expected to be more closely aligned with Supercars in the future, bringing the classic and ever-progressive category back into the national eye in a big way.

Next year the series is also due to have an influx of some more seriously quick machines, with some highly anticipated builds on the way for 2024 which will be revealed in due course. But here’s a look at this year’s stellar Bathurst 1000 field…
