AUSTRALIAN F4 TEAMS TEST AHEAD OF OPENER

By Auto Action

Pre-season testing has begun at Tailem Bend in the lead-up to the first event of the 2024 Australian Formula 4 Championship.

The F4 category, considered one of the top pathways for drivers aspiring to compete in Formula 1 and aligned with the FIA, is run by series organiser Top Speed China and governing body Motorsport Australia.

The category will officially return to Australian soil on Friday.

The winner of the championship will earn 7 super licence points, the highest of any Australian open-wheel racing category.

Event promoters have also announced that the top 3 drivers in the standings following the third round of the championship will be invited to Malaysia for a 5-day Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy Asia Pacific and Oceania Selection Program event, provided they meet the selection criteria.

In addition to hosting the opening two rounds of the championship, The Bend also houses all the cars and is the track where all pre-season testing will be completed.

This weekend’s opening round will consist of 2 x 60-minute practice sessions on Friday, followed by a further 30-minute practice session and 2 x 15-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday.

The first of three 25-minute + 1 lap races will take place on Saturday afternoon, ahead of the final two races on Sunday.

A total of 12 entries have been confirmed for Round 1 of the Australian F4 Championship, joining the field of over 100 cars that will be competing across various categories in the third event of the SA Motor Racing Championships this weekend.

Entries are expected from AGi Racing, Team BRM, and Jam Motorsport (which is based at the circuit). Unfortunately, Tim Macrow Racing has advised that its entry has been withdrawn.

The event will be live streamed on Blendline TV, and entry is free for spectators looking to attend.

We’re back from our weekend in Taupo (Tow Paw), and what an unbelievable first weekend for that venue. It was, we felt, the start of this season, too, despite it being the third round. Andrew and Bruce were there, and PG was on the couch.

Brodie Kostecki was back for Erebus, Andre Heimgartner won for Brad Jones Racing, and Will Brown battled his teammate Broc Feeney for the other win. Anton De Pasquale also won the Jason Richards Trophy for the best performer over the two races – is Dick Johnson Racing back?
