Marquez to leave Repsol Honda for Gresini Ducati

The highly successful union between Marc Marquez and Repsol Honda will come to an end this year with the famous #93 on its way to Gresini Ducati.
For the first time in his career Marquez is on the move, joining his brother Alex at Gresini Ducati to confirm the longtime rumours.
By mutual agreement Marquez and Repsol Honda have decided to go their separate ways after a challenging two seasons interrupted by injury and uncompetitiveness with the #93 only achieving its first podium of 2023 last time out in Japan,
It marks the end of one of the most successful rider and team combinations in MotoGP history with six championships achieved within seven years.
Marquez admitted it will be sad to depart the squad which helped him become one of the best ever.
“Thank you for this great journey! 11 years together,” Marquez said.
“We shared unforgettable moments: six world championships, five triple crowns (riders’, teams’, constructors’ championships), 59 victories, 101 podiums and 64 poles.
“It was through hard work, determination and the bond we have built over the years.
“Laughs, tears, joys, hard moments, but most importantly: a unique and unrepeatable relationship.
“Separated but always together.”
Marquez was elevated into the premier class as Casey Stoner’s replacement in 2013 fresh from doing the Moto3 and Moto2 double.
The pair tasted the ultimate success instantly by beating the likes of Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa to the riders title in the #93’s rookie season.
After the famous rookie championship, Marquez was unstoppable in 2014, winning the first 10 Grands Prix.
His perfect start came to an end in 2015 when he fell short, finishing third, but before too long Marquez was back on top, winning the 2016 title in dominant style.
This kicked off a run of four-straight championships with the unbeaten streak only coming to an end in 2020 when he only participated one race due to a serious arm injury.
Despite missing four races in 2021 due to surgery, he still appeared in victory lane on three separate occasions.
The latest of those arrived at Misano, which remains his 59th and latest win as Repsol Honda’s competitiveness has faded.
Although it is not official, it is expected Marquez will move to Gresini to join his brother and ride a year old Ducati for 2024.
It will be the start of a bold, new era for Marquez.
