Stroll to miss Singapore GP following high-impact crash

By Reese Mautone

Lance Stroll will miss tonight’s Singapore Grand Prix following his high-impact crash in qualifying last night.

Aston Martin has confirmed the Canadian will not be taking part in tonight’s race as Stroll is still feeling the “after-affects” of the final corner crash.

During last night’s qualifying session, a red flag was immediately called for the #18 Aston Martin lying battered in the middle of the start/finish straight, sidepod torn apart, fluid running on the track and a wheel ripped off by the barriers.

Replays showed significant head contact with the headrest as the car rebounded out of its frontal contact with the wall, however, Stroll was on the radio to confirm he was okay as he then headed to the medical centre for a mandatory check-up.

“The whole team are relieved that Lance was able to step out of the car after yesterday’s accident – however, he is still feeling the after-effects of such a high-impact crash,” Team Principal Mike Krack said.

“Our priority now is that he makes a full and speedy recovery.

“Together, we have decided that he will sit out this evening’s race and instead focus fully on returning to the cockpit for next weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.”

Stroll’s teammate, Fernando Alonso, will be starting the Singapore GP from P7, with lights out taking place at 10:00 PM tonight.
