Super 2/3 to use E75 fuel in 2024

By Timothy Neal

Supercars have confirmed that the Super2 and Super3 series will adopt the lower carbon E75 Racing Fuel from the beginning of the 2024 season.

Both series will continue to use the E85 for the remainder of this season before switching to the product developed by BP’s global fuel technology experts that Supercars adopted at the start of 2023.

The lower carbon fuel contains more than 80% of second generation fuel components sourced from renewable feedstocks.

There was initially talk of introducing the fuel switch midseason, but a backlash from competitors surrounding the technical changes that would need to be made to accomodate the fuel was taken into account.

Primarily, the fuel won’t be introduced to the series this year as teams will need to make engine mapping alterations to the Car of the Future Supercars in order to accomodate for the new product, as well as accomodating for the recent changes that have made to the fire suppression system.

“The confirmed timeline of the introduction of BP E75 Racing Fuel to the Dunlop Series confirms that other technical changes required in the Car of the Future Supercar engines that suit the new blend, will not be required until the start of 2024,” Supercars CEO Shane Howard said.

“This confirmation ensures teams will have time to make the required alterations and test the new fuel product in their Car of the Future Supercars prior to the 2024 Series.”

As recently reported, an updated fire suppression system and the relocation of the oil catch can vent to the rear of the car will also be mandatory from 2024.

The Super2/3 series will resume at the Sandown 500 on September 15-17, with two races across the Saturday and Sunday.

The Super2 field is currently being led by upcoming Supercar enduro co-drivers Zak Best and Kai Allen, with Best likely to sit out due to his drive with James Courtney in the Tickford Mustang in the Sandown 500, whilst Allen is only competing in the DJR Bathurst 1000 wildcard with Simona De Silvestro.

In the Super3 standings there is a very tight battle at the top between Jobe Stewart and Cameron McLeod in the Commodore VF and Nissan Altima respectively, with Stewart heading that battle by just three points.
