RCR crew chief’s high praise for Kostecki

Brodie Kostecki rcr seat fit

By Thomas Miles

Brodie Kostecki has only been at Richard Childress Racing for a handful of days ahead of his NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend, but he is already turning heads.

Kostecki will join Shane van Gisbergen, Jenson Button and Kamui Kobayashi as the international stars on show at the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.

The current Supercars Championship leader made his first foray into the NASCAR scene by competing in the K&N Pro Series East as a 15-year-old in 2013 and 2014.

But now with three wins and almost 100 races of Supercars experience under his belt, Kostecki returns to America to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut.

With no tests available he has been busy in the simulator preparing for his first drive of the Generation 7 Camaro.

Although Kostecki is yet to turn a wheel in anger of the #33 X Mobile car, his crew chief Justin Alexander is already massively impressed.

“His (Brodie’s) feedback is phenomenal and incredible, on par with the best I have ever worked with as far as road racers go, if not the best,” he told Supercars.com.

“So I am looking forward to working with him at the race track after doing a lot of simulator work. We have already made adjustments to the car based on his feedback.”

Alexander is not just any crew chief having won two of the biggest NASCAR races with Austin Dillion with Coke 600 success at Charlotte in 2017 and Daytona 500 glory the following season.

“I am a former crew chief for Austin Dillon over the last three or four years and have won the Coke 600 and Daytona 500 with him,” he explained.

“I have had some good success with Austin and I am looking forward to working with Brodie.”

Kostecki also provided an insight into some of the differences between NASCAR and Supercars he has already noticed.

“Justin has a great reputation in the sport and has won the Daytona 500. It has been great working with him and everyone at RCR to be honest,” the Supercars series leader said.

“These NASCAR guys do it a little bit differently with 10 guys sitting behind the screen looking at data and cycling through it all.

“There are so many people around compared to Supercars which is tight knit with just a few people.

“Trying to talk to all those people and maximise that is a bit of a learning curve for me, but I am having fun doing it.

“Working closely with both RCR and Erebus hopefully benefits the whole organisation heading into Indy and I am excited to see where it leads.”

Kostecki will go racing on Monday morning.
