The Bob Jane T-Marts name returns to Le Mans

By Timothy Neal

The Iconic Bob Jane T-Marts name will make a return to Le Mans via Bob’s son Rodney Jane, and the Porsche Carrera Cup.

The Amateur Porsche competitor – a two-time AM-class Porsche champion – will sport the famous Aussie brand on his international debut at the centenary running of one of motorsports most celebrated events.

Jane will be entering to race in the Porsche Carrera Cup races, which this year is led by the Scandinavian one-make series.

They’ll race on the Saturday prior to the 24 hour race kicking off as one of the support acts, which also includes the Ferrari Challenge, the Ligier European series, and the Road to Le Mans series.

It will be a first return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans event for the Bob Jane T-Marts logo since 1984, when Bob Jane backed an Australian dream team consisting of Peter Brock and Larry Perkins, with the touring car legends competing in a Porsche 956.

The legendary pair – who had won three Bathurst 1000 races together – qualified the 956 in P15, and ran as high as fifth in the famous race before mechanical issues and a crash ended their hopes on motorsport’s most famous stage.

For Jane, having the opportunity to take on the storied 13.6 km Circuit de la Sarthe, is a homage to both the brand and his father.

“This trip for me means more than just driving a race car at Le Mans,” Jane noted.

“My father was instrumental in the careers of many racing drivers, including some of the best names in the sport and he played a pivotal role in getting Peter Brock and Larry Perkins to race there 39 years ago in a Porsche in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Two Bathurst legends racing there was massive news at the time and I’d like to think that this trip is a small way to pay homage to that.

“I’m really excited for this adventure. It is really going to mean a lot to myself and the Bob Jane T-Marts business.”

Jane currently sits second in the Am-class of the Aussie one-make series in his second year back after nearly a decade on the sidelines.

The Carrera Cup practice sessions at Le Mans start on Wednesday (June 5), with more practice and qualifying on Friday followed by the one and only race on Saturday.
