Erebus looking the goods ahead of Qualifying

By Timothy Neal

Erebus Championship leader Brodie Kostecki swooped late to top his second practice of the day, with the inform Jack Le Brocq leading much of the session for a P2.

Brown was also quick again to send an ominous warning ahead of qualifying with both Erebus Camaro’s looking the goods again.

For the second session running, Grove racing didn’t have either of its drivers in the top ten, with some cause for concern over their set-ups prior to qualifying.

Anton De Pasquale is also under a cloud ahead of qualifying with clutch and gearing issues, but the DJR team say they should get the
#11 Mustang out.

There was also a scary moment between Courtney and Reynolds, with the Tickford Mustang narrowly avoiding a two car disaster that would have ended their days, coming up on the Penrite Mustang’s rear at speed.

The second and final practice session of a short and sharp weekend got underway as the sun came out to provide some warmer tyre temps in the lead up to Race 10 qualifying.

Brown and Kostecki went top early, with Brown finding a 51.571, over Courtney and SVG.

Much of the field pitted after marking up some tyre options for Qualifying, as Le Brocq went P1 with a 51.243, with Waters locking up into Turn 4 after pulling a purple sector in the first.

In an active little period Andre Heimgartner dropped Declan Fraser into the grass at Turn 2 as Pye went into P2 over Fullwood, and De Pasquale was seemingly having gearing issues getting out of fourth as the #11 Mustang went into the sheds.

Winterbottom, Feeney, Golding and Hill all pushed up with the #34 MSR Camaro still holding top spot with 13 minutes to run.

The margins were typically tight with 10 minutes to run, all the way down to De Pasquale in P25, only +0.906 off the mark despite his gearing issues.

SVG was only +0.020 off Le Brocq to go P2, with Winterbottom, Feeney, Slade and Golding in behind, as much of the field took to the pits with five minutes left.

The late happy hour dash saw Feeney stuck in the shed as they couldn’t actually get the car started, but he managed to sneak out with a minute left.

Courtney went onto the grass at turn 4 almost having a disaster into the back of Reynolds which ruined his chance of a lap, as the flag dropped on the session with Kostecki managing to put in a 51.172 to go P1 and take his second session of the day, over the MSR Camaro.

Brown settled into P3, followed by Randle, Winterbottom, SVG, Golding Feeney, Slade and Hazelwood, split by just +0.192.
