NSW Sprintcar champ in high spirits after crash

By Timothy Neal

NSW Sprintcar champion Marcus Dumesny is in the Toowoomba hospital following his crash at the QLD State title on Sunday night.

Having suffered a fracture of his T3 vertebrae at the Toowoomba Speedway, the Sprintcar champ is said to be in good spirits, with his brother Matt having also been on track that evening.

Just weeks after claiming the state title at Eastern Creek Speedway, where he made history by joining his father Max and brother Matt as home-state champions, Dumesny crashed on lap 20 of 36 at the QLD state title, with the feature being called owing to it taking two hours to extract Dumesny from his Valvoline #47 Rowett Motorsport car.

Members of his team say he is in high spirits despite the fracture, and gave some information on his condition.

“As Toowoomba hospital doesn’t have a spinal ward it has been a slow process but they have been great there.”

“Massive thank you to both our teams for staying with him during this long ordeal.

“Thank you to everyone that helped safely get him out and thanks to everyone that has reached out to check on him, we appreciate you all.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated through our socials, thank you.”

As well as taking out the generational NSW State title, Dumesny has also raced in the premier World of Outlaws series in the States in 2019, and was also the 2022 Australian Sprintcar champion.
