New brand Lynk & Co to launch Aussie TCR assault

There will be a new brand arriving on the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series scene in 2023 with Lynk & Co joining the field.
Ashley Steward Motorsport will race with the Lynk & Co badge, which is expected to make its first appearance at Phillip Island in May to become the sixth manufacturer in the category joining Peugeot, Audi, Hyundai, Honda and Alfa Romeo.
British Touring Car Championship race winner, Tom Oliphant will drive the Lynk & Co 03 TCR having raced at the recent Tasmania season opener in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce.
The car Oliphant will drive is an ex-Cyan Racing chassis that has featured in the FIA WTCR World Touring Car Cup.
The Lynk & Co brand is a joint venture between the Geely Auto Group and Volvo Car Group, which famously entered S60’s with Garry Rogers Motorsport in Supercars from 2014 to 2016 and won the 1986 ATCC title with Robbie Francevic in a 240T.
The brand itself was founded in 2016 in Sweden, while production began in China the following year and has plans on entering the Australian market in the future.
Lynk & Co’s motor racing pedigree has been purely TCR where it has enjoyed global success.
The brand won back-to-back WTCR titles in 2020 and 2021, which were the back end of a three-peat of teams championships starting in 2019.
The 03 TCR has also been driven to championship success in TCR Asia and South America by David Zhu and Fabricio Pezzini respectively.
Ashley Steward Motorsport team principal Ashley Steward said he is full of excitement to be the first to race a Lynk & Co car in Australia.
“We are proud to announce a significant new partnership with Geely Group Motorsport which will see Lynk & Co 03 TCR model represented in TCR Australia with our team,” said Seward.
“We have been working with Geely Group Motorsport for some time on this project and they have been great to deal with throughout.
“We believe Lynk & Co offers the best TCR customer program in the world and have no doubt we can add to the success the brand has had in the highest levels of TCR globally.
“We feel that Lynk & Co, with our new driver Tom Oliphant will be a formidable combination and we can’t wait to get the car to Australia and out on track.”
The Lynk & Co car will make its debut at Phillip Island on May 12-14.
