Perth readies itself for some nitro power

By Thomas Miles

The Perth Motorplex will be hit with a dose of nitro power this weekend for the 52rd running of the Westernationals.

The Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship heads across the Nullarbor to Western Australia for the fifth round of the 2023 season.

PremiAir Racing heads to Perth in form, after beating Phil Read to secure an emotional win at the Atlantic Oils Top Fuel Slam in Sydney held in honour of Sam Fenech.

The Top Fuel Dragsters will be joined by the BME Speedtorque Nitro Max and ADRC Top Fuel Motorcycles.

Rob Cassar has a firm grip on the ADRC Top Fuel Motorcycle championship, with a 81-point lead over Mark Drew.

Fans will also be entertained by a huge field of methanol-powered supercharged Top Doorslammers.

Australia’s leading sportsman racers are also coming to Perth with a national championship to be decided in the Grand Final of the 2022/2023 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

Perth Motorplex general manager Paul Trengove said there will be everything a drag racing fan can wish for this weekend.

“I don’t think there is anywhere else you are going to see this many nitro-burning racing machines all in one place,” he said.

“From seven 12,000hp+ nitro-powered Top Fuel Dragsters to five of the hugely popular nitro-burning Nitro Max funny cars, dragsters and altereds plus 11 nitro-guzzling Top Fuel Motorcycles, the MAC Track Westernationals is the place to be this weekend for fans of nitro.

“And as if that wasn’t enough, you will also see 12 Top Doorslammers and more than 200 of Australia’s best sportsman racers, all duking it out for national title points.

“The sportsman racers in particular are going to be absolutely bringing their A-Game as this event marks their 2022/2023 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series season grand finale.

“If you are a drag racing fan, the Perth Motorplex is the place to be this weekend – make sure you act quick to secure your tickets now for what is going to be a truly not-to-be-missed event.”

The MAC Track Westernationals will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Gates open 11.00am on both days, while with the ‘main show’ will be held from 5.30pm to 10.00pm.
