Stacked field to salute Sam

By Auto Action

A capacity field of Australia’s best drag racers are ready to remember the life of Sam Fenech at the upcoming Atlantic Oils Top Fuel Slam at Sydney Dragway.

The January 27/28 event which doubles as round 4 of the 2022/23 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, will celebrate the life of Fenech, who tragically passed away at Willowbank Raceway on January 7.

Being free to enter, competitor entries are already maxed out for the event, with well over 200 race teams signed up.

The loaded grid is headlined by seven 11,000 horsepower Top Fuel Dragsters, while ADRC Top Doorslammer, Top Alcohol and Pro Mod, Australia’s best sportsman racers and burnouts will also be in action in what is set to be a true celebration of Fenech and the sport he loved.

A capacity field and big crowd is expected at the upcoming Atlantic Oils Top Fuel Slam at Sydney Dragway.

Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship and Atlantic Oils Top Fuel Slam promoter, Nathan Prendergast said the drag racing world is determined to put on a show Fenech would be proud of.

“The entire drag racing community is devastated at the passing of Sam Fenech, so together with Burson Auto Parts and Atlantic Oils, we wanted to make this Australia Day weekend event an opportunity for the racing community to really come together,” Prendergast said.

“Free-of-charge competitor entry and drastically reduced spectator ticketing have been introduced to make sure this event is as accessible as possible so we can fill Sydney Dragway and appropriately pay our respects to one of the greats of the drag racing scene.

“The response has been phenomenal with entries now sold out and spectator tickets flying out the door.

“Together, we will ensure that January 27 and 28 is a fitting tribute to Sam with exciting drag racing action and a number of special moments in his honour as we remember him in a way that would make him smile – at the track, racing with friends.”

Amongst the incredible pool of drag racing talent lining up for the Atlantic Oil Top Fuel Slam will be US drag racing star, Larry Dixon.

Dixon will drive the third Rapisarda Autosport International Top Fuel Dragster for the fourth of the 2022/2023 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship.

The three-time NHRA Top Fuel world champion has been in the drag-racing world since the 1990’s and is a second generation racer following in the footsteps of his father Larry Snr.

The American will front a line up featuring the Australian Drag Racing Championship’s Top Doorslammer, Top Fuel Motorcycle, Top Alcohol, Pro Mod, and Atlantic Oils Pro Stock categories.

Also on-track will be the popular sportsman categories of SuperComp, Atlantic Oils Supercharged Outlaws, Top Sportsman, Super Gas, Competition Bike, Modified, Modified Bike, Super Sedan, Super Street and Junior Dragster, as well as the always popular burnouts and fireworks shows.

Fireworks will also put on a spectacular full stop on the night and spectator tickets are still available, but are selling fast as prices have been slashed to make this special celebration as accessible as possible.

Tickets are available online from $25 for adults and $60 for a family of four (2 x adults and 2 x 11-16yo), while entry for kids aged 10 years and under are free.
