VIC STATE SERIES REVS BACK INTO ACTION AT SANDOWN THIS WEEKEND

By Timothy Neal

The Vic State Series will take its round four competition to the Sandown International Motor Raceway this weekend, for its August 12-14 showdown.

Victoria’s premier grassroots event will see championships laid on the line with nine different categories taking to the circuit over three days of close competitive racing.

Over 200 entrants have been confirmed with applications still open until August 10, and tickets for the event are just $20 dollars on the Saturday, and $30 dollars on the Sunday.

The Holdens are setting the pace in the Improved Production series with Adam Poole and Jarrod Tonks, with just 35 points separating the Monaro and Commodore racers.

In the Garagistic BMW Driver’s Cup, the E30’s have been great to watch this season, with Alex Jory setting the benchmark so far; but with second place holder Brian Burke kicking his feet up in the Venetian sun this round, the competition for second is open slather.

The Vic V8’s will give fans some noisy door to door stuff, and the open wheelers in the Formula Ford and Formula Vee’s will offer some good pace amongst a packed field of competitors.

The Porsche 944’s are log-jammed at the top this year, as just 26 points separate the top three in Westaway, Brewer and Beller; and the Saloon Cars are back for their second crack at Sandown this season.

The Sports Cars will also be providing some menacing pace, and the popular Hyundai Excel series will also be having its ninth meeting of the year with their regular showing of tight and evenly pegged racing.
