INDYCAR DRIVER MARCO ANDRETTI TO RACE NASCAR

By Timothy Neal

Former IndyCar driver Marco Andretti will debut in NASCAR this October at the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course.

Andretti is the third generation of the famous Andretti racing family, and last raced in the IndyCar series back in 2020 after making his debut in 2006, but has competed in one-off appearances at the Indianapolis 500.

He left IndyCar after winning two races, leaving behind a family legacy that includes 96 all-time IndyCar wins.

He recently defeated a few NASCAR veterans in Ryan Newman and Bobby Labonte in season 2 of Tony Stewart’s six-week Superstar Racing Experience.

With his attention now turning to actual NASCAR, Andretti will drive the #48 Big Machine Racing Chevrolet Camaro in the Xfinity series, a car owned by Scott Borchetta.

The last of the Andretti’s to compete in the NASCAR environment was cousin, John Andretti, who took part in the Daytona 500 back in 2010 – John passed away in 2020.

But he will also be the fifth overall member of his family to compete in NASCAR

Andretti recently found success in the stock-cars, winning the SRX series in the most recent 2022 season.

The Big Machine Racing team have had a tumultuous year in terms of drivers to date, with six drivers so far being used, but they managed to get their first victory in their second season via Tyler Reddick at the Texas Motor Speedway in May.

The Charlotte Speedway race will be on October 8.
