DYLAN YOUNG RETURNS TO F3 WITH EYES ON ENDURANCE RACING

By Dan McCarthy

Victorian Dylan Young is set to return to European competition, competing in the Formula 3 Regional series with Graff Racing, and has the intentions to race with the team in endurance racing going forward.

Young will return to the F3 Regional class of the Ultimate Cup Series with the French team at the Misano World Circuit this weekend, driving the same car that saw him step on the podium six times throughout a successful 2021 campaign.

Graff Racing is a well-known endurance outfit which competes in multiple categories in LMP2 and LMP3.

Young plans to utilise the running this year in F3 Regional as preparation for a planned move into endurance prototype racing from next year.

The 2019/20 MRF Challenge Formula 3 Vice Champion, will finish the F3 regional season competing at Hockenheim, Magny-Cours and Paul Ricard.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be back on track after the success I had last year with Graff in the F3 Regional class of the Ultimate Cup Series,” he said.

“Obviously I’ll be facing another challenge going straight into this round with a long layoff against drivers with much more recent seat time.

“But this is pretty typical for me as the Aussie battler and all I can do is laugh it off, put my head down and work my ass off as I know I have the ability to be instantly on the pace like last year when we came in and were up the front instantly.”

Young is determined next year to make the transition from open-wheelers to prototype racing.

“This wouldn’t be possible without the continued support of some amazing people and companies in my corner,” he continued.

“We are all on this journey together so I can’t thank them enough for backing me in for what will be a critical season for my ambitions to make the transition to a Le Mans endurance career.”

With Graff Racing competing across a number of championships including the European Le Mans Series, a strong showing this season could see him move into their LMP3 and LMP2 programmes from next season before he targets a future in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

His F3 action this weekend consists of three practice sessions, qualifying and three races.
