DUAL INDIGENOUS LIVERIES FOR PENRITE RACING

DUAL INDIGENOUS LIVERIES FOR PENRITE RACING

By Timothy Neal

Grove Racing has revealed the liveries that will adorn the cars of David Reynolds and Lee Holdsworth at the Supercars Championship Indigenous Round.

Reynolds and Holdsworth will race in matching artwork at Hidden Valley Raceway from June 17-19, designed by Darwin born Indigenous artist and Melbourne Indigenous Transition School Boarding House Manager Lorraine Kabbindi White.

The MITS is a partner of Grove Racing, so it was fitting that a representative of the school had the opportunity to put together this year’s Indigenous livery, which is based on ‘The First Bees’ and the ‘Freshwater Mermaids’ artworks created by Kabbindi.

Kabbindi used natural pigments all sourced from her family’s Mok Clan – Ankung Djang (Sugar bag dreaming) estate on the upper Liverpool River, Arnhem Land, NT.

Peter Hughes and Tim Pattinson aided Kabbindi is transferring her skills onto the surface of a Supercar.

Reynolds and Holdsworth won’t be the only people to show off the artwork on track – Australian Superbike rider Troy Herfoss will also sport the design on his Penrite-backed Honda Racing machine.

In the lead up to Indigenous round, Penrite Racing welcomed MITS alumni into its workshop, while Reynolds, Holdsworth and Herfoss visited MITS students in their classroom last week.

“I love the Indigenous Round concept,” Reynolds said.

“We’re celebrating the oldest living culture in the world which is very cool. My partner has a rich Indigenous heritage and is from Darwin so this round has a special significance for me.

“It was also good to give the MITS students a look an insight into our world at the workshop.

“I can’t wait to get on track at Darwin.”

Herfoss, who is currently eighth in the ASBK standings, was likewise thrilled to be involved.

“It’s really cool to be supporting the indigenous round and aligning ourselves with Penrite Racing supercars team again,” Herfoss said.

“It was a lot of fun spending the day with Lee, Dave and the team in Melbourne during our visit to MITS.

“Partnering with the school and connecting to an organisation that supports young Aboriginal people from regional Victoria and the Darwin region who want to access education in Melbourne has been great and I am proud our teams are supporting this.

“I’m also looking forward to showing off the new livery of course.”

MITS Executive Director, Edward Tudor was proud to be aligning with Penrite Racing during Indigenous round.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the team at Penrite Racing for this year’s Indigenous Round,” he said.

“It is very special to be celebrating our wonderful students, their communities and their cultures while racing on Larrakia Country.

“The generosity the Penrite team have shown MITS and our students has been greatly appreciated.”

The Supercars Darwin Triple Crown will take place from June 17-19, with the ASBK Championship supporting the Supercars Championship.
