WATERS TAKES BOTH SUNDAY WINTON POLES

By Dan McCarthy

Hot off the back of his first Supercars race win at Winton yesterday Cameron Waters has taken both the pole positions today.

The Tickford Racing driver edged out reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen in both sessions.

The first session in particular was tight, Waters beating SVG to pole by just 0.0006s, the closest pole margin since Darwin in 2010.

After finishing third yesterday, David Reynolds qualified batter for Race 14 and will start just behind Waters and van Gisbergen in third.

Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert left it late to set his best time, jumping from last to fourth, just 0.06s off the pace of Reynolds.

Brad Jones Racing driver Andre Heimgartner rounded out the top five from David Reynolds’ teammate Lee Holdsworth, and the best of the Dick Johnson Racing Mustangs of Anton de Pasquale.

Will Brown, rookie Broc Feeney and Mark Winterbottom rounded out the top 10.

Will Davison was the notable name who missed out on a top 10 spot, qualifying down in 12th place.

Waters took pole more comfortably in qualifying for Race 15, the Monster sponsored driver will start from first after setting a 1m 18.34s time.

SVG set his time earlier, 0.149s off the pace of the Tickford Mustang.

Heimgartner backed up his top five from Race 13, qualifying third for Race 14.

Alongside him will be de Pasquale, with Brown rounding out the top five.

Reynolds was faster in the second session, however his 18.6 was only good enough for p6.

Brodie Kostecki, Winterbottom, Holdsworth and Mostert rounded out the top 10.

Feeney was just outside of the top 10, he qualified in 11th ahead of Jake Kostecki and Davison.

Notably Nick Percat qualified qualified in 27th place for the weekend’s final race, however Race 13 was not much better he will start that race from 16th.
